Porsche's first look at a mid-engined super sports car that will sit above the 911, permanently, not as a limited one-off. Here are the official photos, the short list of what Porsche actually confirmed, and the much longer list of what it has not.

The short answer

  • The Porsche Mission S is a vision model (concept car) Porsche revealed on 15 October 2026 in Queens, New York.
  • It previews a mid-engined super sports car platform that will sit above the 911 as a permanent model line, not a limited hypercar.
  • Porsche has not announced horsepower, price or a release date. Its CEO says the platform can take combustion, hybrid or plug-in hybrid power, and there will be no fully electric version.
  • The cockpit has five round instruments and no centre screen; a MagSafe phone holder replaces it.

Five round instruments, like the car's own cockpit. The red one is the reading Porsche has not given yet.

What the Mission S is

The Mission S is a vision model: a show car that previews ideas rather than a car you can order. Porsche presented it on Thursday, 15 October 2026, and described it as two things at once.

First, it is the opening statement of a new design direction. Porsche CEO Dr. Michael Leiters said it "provides a glimpse of the ideas and design features that will shape Porsche in the coming years," and Head of Style Tobias Sühlmann said the company "will soon be translating" the direction into its future product range. Expect to see pieces of this car on other Porsches.

Second, and this is the bigger news, it stands for a mid-engined super sports car platform positioned above the 911. In Leiters' words, that platform is meant to be "not as a one-off hypercar, but as a permanent and versatile addition to our customer offering." Porsche has built mid-engined halo cars before, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder among them, but each was a limited run. A permanent model line above the 911 is new for the company. Porsche had announced the platform a week earlier, at its 7 October Capital Markets Day, as part of a strategy it calls "Sportwagenschmiede '35."

What Porsche did not do is give a single number. There is no engine, power figure, weight, price or on-sale date in the release. Our spec sheet keeps what was confirmed apart from what was only reported.

Why Porsche revealed it on a pier in Queens

The location was the message. In 1953, photographs of a Porsche 550 Spyder on this same pier, with Manhattan behind it, went around the world. Porsche calls the 550 Spyder its first super sports car, and credits it with helping build the brand in the United States. It was also mid-engined. Putting the Mission S in the same spot, 73 years later, is Porsche drawing a straight line from that car to this one.

Quick answers

Will the Porsche Mission S go into production?

Not as this exact car. Porsche calls the Mission S a vision model. What Porsche has committed to is the platform it previews: a mid-engined super sports car line above the 911, offered permanently. The production car's name, final design and timing have not been announced.

How much will the Porsche Mission S cost?

Porsche has not announced a price. Figures around €500,000 circulated before the reveal; Porsche did not confirm them, and we do not treat them as a price.

What engine does the Porsche Mission S have?

Porsche has not named an engine. The release confirms only that it sits in the middle of the car. After the reveal, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters told Auto Express the platform has "the flexibility to do pure ICE, hybrid and also plug-in hybrid." A flat-eight has been widely reported but not confirmed.

Is the Porsche Mission S electric?

No fully electric version is planned. Porsche CEO Michael Leiters told Auto Express on 15 October 2026: "There won't be a BEV on that platform: there is no demand." That makes it the opposite of the 2023 Mission X concept, which was electric.

When and where was the Porsche Mission S revealed?

On Thursday, 15 October 2026, on a pier in Queens, New York, facing Manhattan: the same pier where the Porsche 550 Spyder was photographed in 1953.
